My Writing Style

Midnight post ftw.

I'm sure in school, both local and abroad, all of us have been given loads of essays to write, ranging from discriptive to expository types, speeches to letters.

Since my mother is a language teacher, well she 'was' one, she used to guide me step by step, instructing me on how to write each and every one of my paragraphs back in primary school. I got used to her way of writing and eventually I developed my own style when I reached secondary school, where everyone was taught to be independent and accountable for their actions and grades.

What made things worse was that in subjects that made you write essays, for example english, history and social studies, we were asked to memorize writing formats and if we didn't adhere closely to these formats in examinations, marks would be penalized.

As a result, combined with my unadventurous personality and formats that stuck in my head forever, my way of writing became rigid, and very standardized. My sentence structure was very similar. The way I organized info in my essays was the same.

My teacher once said, "Do you always copy from the same person? Your assignments always sound the same."

And this writing habit is reflected in my blog posts. Don't you realize my posts sound very formal and similar? I'm not saying they are good, but I feel the tone is wrong. It's got to do with my choice of words perhaps? Maybe I shouldn't conduct a thorough check for any glaring punctuation errors?

I've read many blog posts by some locals , and I've realized that they write so casually, as if to their friend. Sigh...I wonder when I can break out of this shell and just write in whichever way I like hhahah!

See you guys!

The Team

So yesterday night I went out with "The Team" for a meal at Mr Teh Tarik House (I think that's what it's called, but it's some teh Tarik thing for sure haha). These group of people mean a lot to me. Why?

It all started in November last year, when I was picked to go for Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam. We were thrown into the heart of some forest (forgot what it's called, but it's near an SAF camp there) and for 10 days, we did stuff that really changed me and forced me out of my comfort zone Eg: 5km run every morning, sleeping with all 17 of us in a tent meant for 4, getting lost in the jungle 3 times and failing to arrive at Camp before sunset, to name a few.

Then and there, was where strong, unbreakable bonds were fostered. And we still remain intact as a team, till this day.

I am soo thankful for being given the opportunity to meet these amazing people of character. I will never forget them, and hopefully we'll be able to hang out more frequently after our national exams in 3 months time.

Do you have such close friends in your life? Feel free to comment your experiences with them!

Follower Count?

To those who own an insta/twitter account, Have you ever wondered why some users unfollow you? After setting up my own insta account just this year (Yes, I know thats kinda late), Ive seen the number above 'Followers' drop by several notches over the past months. My follower count does not bother me. But what really does is why that number drops from time to time. Did I post something that you may have found offensive? Or perhaps I posted too many pictures in a week till it annoyed you? For me, I believe that the reason why people unfollow others on instagram, is to make themselves look popular. How, you may ask? By making the 'Follower' count exceed the 'Following' one. Through this way, other users who happen to view this particular person's profile, will probably wonder, "Wow! There are more people that know this guy, than the guy knows himself! He must be real popular." or "This girl has soo many fans, she must be really well known in her college." My hypothesis might be one of the numerous reasons why people unfollow others on platforms like twitter or instagram. Or it could be complete false. What I'd love to hear, is your personal opinion on this matter! What might be the ulterior motive behind why people do such things? And perhaps you could share your personal experience regarding this? Faux
